Guest Speakers

    • Fred Hildebrand: Lord Fairfax House, Winchester VA

 

  • 90 day program
  • Have 8 beds (6 men, 2 women), trying to expand to 24 (In historic district, making it hard to build)
  • ASAM (American Society of Addiction Medicine) Levels of care (0-5): Lord Fairfax House is currently a halfway house, working on 3.1: Clinically managed low intensity residential program
  • Not a detox unit, there is no detox in Winchester. Sent to Harrisonburg, Leesburg for detox. Valley Health Winchester is in process of creating
  • Teach participants to live a valued life, most of them have never lived a valued life
  • Most are homeless
  • 62% success rate (positive living environment)
  • Have a desire to broaden services to include veteran population
  • Most volunteers and employees are in recovery
  • There is a waiting list: 12 men (end of September), 7 women (end of November)
  • Receive funding from Northwestern CSB, Virginia DOC; pursuing partnership with WATTS and CAT5/VA
  • Currently community model, working towards a Family model to include families
  • Referrals to program:
  • Process: Can come in while using, if they test positive later they have to leave until they are clean. If they require medical attention they are referred and then come back.
  • Intake: Can call facility and be screened.
  • Funding is not an issue, if not approved for DOC or CSB, they are given scholarship

  • September 13th, 12-2 PM: Suicide Prevention Walk Martinsburg VA Medical center walking trail
  • September 14, 1-4: @ Martinsburg VA: 3 hour training on overview of TBI, impact on 60+ year olds
  • September 16th at 8 am: Honor Flight Top of VA open to Vietnam, Korean & WWII veterans, leaving at 8 am, arrive in DC @ 10 am. POC: Anthony Barnes, anthony.barnes@mail.house.gov
  • September 22nd 4-6 PM: Chambersburg @ Marine Corps League 450 Branch Street
  • September 26th 8:00 am to 5 pm:  Virginia Veterans Engagement Forum at Shenandoah University, Harrison Halpin Hall 600 Milwood Pike
  • October 12th 10-2: Veterans Career event at Heroes Health and Wellness Center @ Martinsburg VA, POC Anna Stead: Anna.Stead@va.gov
